Welcome to Skyline Rotary

Duluth Skyline Rotary is a member of Rotary District 5580
Skyline Rotary Meets weekly on Fridays at 12:00 PM.
We will be meeting both virtually using Zoom and/or in person at the Duluth YMCA:
Duluth YMCA: 4289 Ugstad Rd. Hermantown, MN 55811 - Driving Directions

We will meet this Friday 3/27/2026 at the YMCA. Our presenter this week will be Maddie Schumacher, Restorative Program Coordinator with Men As Peacemakers. Duties this week: Invocation by Mark and Fellowship by Russ.

Our speaker this week, Maddie, intends to submitt an application for a Rotary Peace Fellowship Masters Degree at either Uppsala University in Sweden or the University of Bradford in England. The application requires a Club and District recommendation, both of which Skyline can provide. It has been many years since District 5580 sponsored a Peace Scholar.

The Superior Rotary Club's 14th annual Craft Beer and Wine Tasting is coming up this Wednesday the 25th at Barkers Island Inn from 5:30 - 8:30. There will be hors d'oeuvres and an online auction. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased at superrotary.org or at the event. See you there.

It is MEAT RAFFLE time again THIS THURSDAY at the Bent Paddle Taproom from 6-8:00. Come hungry. There will be beef stew to prime the pump. Proceeds go to Skyline.

Guests last week were: Superior Rotarian Bob McClellan, Braxton Hjdle guest of Kevin, Dan Dock, and our speaker Joel Kilgour.
Tom gave us an update on his mission trip. He told us about the house that they built for a grandmother with nine kids after their previous house fell over. They built a new 18'x12' house for them. Tom thanked the Club for our support providing tools.
Deb gave an update on the Guatemala project.
Joel Kilgour works for Chum leading the program Stepping on Up. Joel has a long history of working for social justice in housing in Duluth. He talked about the barriers to housing that have increased over time leading to increased cronic homelessness. He talked about the myths such as crime by the homeless. The homeless are more likely to be the victims of crimes. The Stepping on Up program is about building pathways out of Homelessness working cooperatively with the non-profits in Duluth. Thank you to Joel for his compassion and commitment to reducing
homelessness. Joel responded to a followup with a list of projects that Skyline could help with.

Three Hermantown students have submitted their RYLA applications. Hoping for some Proctor students too. Recruiting district wide is going well. I hope to be a facilitator again this year. They can use a Rotary OG.

March is Rotary International Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Month.

Thought for the Week
"Indeed, we're strongest when the face of America isn't only a soldier carrying a gun but also a diplomat negotiating peace, a Peace Corps volunteer bringing clean water to a village, or a relief worker stepping off of a cargo plane as floodwaters rise."
Colin Powell
