We will meet this Friday 9/20 at the YMCA. We will have some lunch and announcements and then head out to the Kids Garden for a Fall cleanup. We will spread some wood chips in the walkways, pull and whack some weeds and turn over soil and get cleaned up for another Spring planting. Bring work gloves. Duties this week are: Invocation - Todd E Johnson, and Fellowship - Kevin Kalligher.
Next Friday, 9/27, we will meet at Lester Park just north of East Superior Street on Lester River Road starting at 11:00 to help set up for the 25th Annual Lester River Rendezvous. We will break for lunch and then finish set up. Skyline is a sponsor. See more about the event at lesterriverrendezous.com Lindsey told us that the student participation on the education days this year was expanded to 650 kids by a generous donation from the Pachel Foundation (managed by PDG Kay Biga and her husband Pat Spott). The event is open to the public on Saturday the 28th from 10 AM - 5 PM.
Skyline is now a member of the Hermantown Area Chamber of Commerce with our speaker two weeks ago, Olivia Sedlachek, delivering our member packet prior to our meeting last week. Now it is time to leverage our membership to engage the businesses and institutions on the "top of the hill" to learn about, support, and join our Club. I will put upcoming networking events onto our Club calendar and the Board can decide to sponsor appropriate events.
Guests last week were: Our presenter District Governor Kay Perries and her husband Dan, Twin Ports Rotaract President Star Gump and VP Trevor.
DG Kay presented President Adam with the annual theme banner of "The Magic of Rotary". Kay talked about her Rotary journey starting in Elgin, IL as a student winning a $100 scholarship from the local Rotary Club. She talked about hosting exchange students from Iceland and Norway and how they became part of her family. She spoke about being a Group Study Exchange Leader to Iceland. She spoke about the Past District Governors, Gary Nolte and Rick Bricker, who mentored and guided her. She spoke of the five words that describe Rotary; Fellowship, Integrity, Diversity, Service, and Leadership. She spoke about her recent trip to the RI Convention in Singapore and the marvel of handheld translators that allowed her to communicate with Rotarians from around the world. Her Rotary commitment and journey has taken her around the world. She asked us, "Where will Rotary take you?". Thank you DG Kay for your service to Rotary and to all of us in District 5580.
September is Rotary International Education and Literacy Month.
