Duluth YMCA: 4289 Ugstad Rd. Hermantown, MN 55811 - Driving Directions

We will meet this Friday, May 24th at the YMCA. Our presenters will be Tom and Susan Meyer speaking about their mission trip to Belize. Duties will be: Invocation - Deb Almirall, Greeter - Adam Daoust, Fellowship - Joe Dusek.

Every gathering of Skyline Rotarians is special. We see our long time and new friends. We celebrate our service, our personal successes, and mourn our losses together. Last week's meeting we celebrated Youth Services month with our Student Rotarians running the meeting and by hearing a presentation about Life House; an organization that helps our young people in need. We heard from PP Harry about the friendship he built in Skyline with Joe Bullyan and how later his friend contributerd to St. Anne's Home where Harry is on the Board. We embraced a father, Bill, awarding his daughter, Alex, with a Paul Harris fellowship. We are blessed to be part of such a meaningful community.

Our guests were: Carlie Blevins, Gavin Tabbart, Zak McPhee, Cody Evers, Abby Schunk, Dan Dock from Club 25, Amy Louhela guest of the Club, our speakers Sophie Hillmeyer and Amber Sadowski, Skyline PP Harry Podgorski, and visiting Rotarian from the Prior Lake Club and Father of Alex, Bill Schult.

Our presenters were Sophie Hillmeyer and Amber Sadowski from Life House. They serve 850 youth per year from ages 18-24. The Life House Vision is to connect homeless youth to their dreams. Their housing group is part of Safe Harbor which relocates and houses youth who have been trafficked. The new Brewery Creek apartments will have one floor dedicated to addressing youth with mental health issues. Life House also provides parenting support for youth with children. They help youth who need job skills and help applying for jobs. We are very fortunate to have Life House in our community serving our at risk youth.

The YMCA Early Childhood Development Center contacted us about helping to plant the Kids Garden the first week in June. It was a marvelous experience last year. The kids are cute. Watch the calendar for the date and time.

May is Rotary International Youth Services Month. Youth bring energy and enthusiasm to our Clubs. Rotary provides many opportunities for youth including Student Rotarians, Youth Exchange, Scholarships, The 4-Way Essay Contest, Interact and Rotaract, and many more.
