This week's meeting will be at the YMCA and will be hybrid. This is RI Foundation month and this will be our Foundation meeting led by Ross Peterson, our Foundation Chair. We are also excited to hear from Amy Hietapelto who will tell us about her responsibilities resulting from her promotion to a a Vice Chancellor position at UMD. Invocation will be by Garret Suihkonen. We will limit our normal Club business to allow time for Amy and Ross.
Last week's meeting was a Happy Hour held at Ursa Minor taproom. We were joined by some spouses, a grandchild, and a guest, David Lewis. President Matt presided over wood fired pizza, craft beer, and a tour led by the owner, Ben Hugus, whose enthusiasm for his growing business was infectious. Fun was had by all.
The Board met last Wednesday. We agreed to donate $2000 from the concert profits to the Duluth Fire Department. There have been suggestions for other organizations to receive funding from the concert. Please provide your suggestions to Matt along with why you think that they are appropriate beneficiaries. Russ is selecting holiday families. Chris has booked the Aquarium for our Holiday Party on Friday, December 10th. Families will be welcome and encouraged. I have enquired, but not heard back whether a Paul Harris Dinner will be held this year.
Dan Dock is organizing Thanksgiving dinner at Life House again this year on Tuesday, November 23rd. These are young people who need both a good meal and to see that their community cares about them. Dan has asked us to provide pies and whip cream again. He says they just need 5 pies and 6 cans of whip cream, but last year I watched those young people enjoy the treats we provided so I think we should make sure that they have plenty to enjoy. I will bring the whip cream, but let me know if you can make or buy a pie (pumpkin, apple or chocolate but no nuts) and deliver it to Life House by 2:30 on the 23rd. I would be happy to pick up and deliver your pies too.
Russ has ordered Fudge but they will have extra if you didn't get your order in. Make checks payable to VALLEY YOUTH CENTER. Friday December 10 we will holiday shop at 6:00 am and wrap presents at noon at the YMCA. That evening will also be our holiday party at the Aquarium. A full Rotary day!
November is Rotary Foundation Month.
