This week's noon lunch meeting will be held at the Clyde as we prepare for the Rock the Skyline Concert. This will not be a hybrid meeting as the background sound will probably make it difficult to hear. There will be no duties or program as we will focus on preparation for the concert. Set up on Friday will start at 10:00 am. Evening volunteers arrive at 5:30. Music starts at 8:00 pm. Tear down starts at 12:00 am. Thank you to all who have sold tickets, brought sponsors and live and silent auction items.
Next week's meeting will be held at the YMCA with the program about the Great Lakes Aquarium.
Last Sunday was World Polio Day. The Pints for Polio fundraiser was held at Bent Paddle Taproom and raised $790 which will be matched by the Gates Foundation 2 for 1 with a total raised of $2,370. We saw Hugo and Penny there. Thanks to those who participated.
Please get your Fudge orders in to Russ. Make checks payable to VALLEY YOUTH CENTER and give to Judy. Friday December 10 we will holiday shop at 6:00 am and wrap presents at noon at the YMCA. That evening will also be our holiday party at the Aquarium. A full Rotary day! Russ organized Past Presidents to assist running meetings going forward. Thank you Russ.
Dan Dock from Club 25 was a guests at last week's meeting. Judy Rogers provided lunch of breaded veal cutlets. Thank you Judy. We watched three short videos on polio including one where the presenter spoke from an iron lung. The eradication of polio led by Rotary will go down in history as the greatest accomplishment for humanity by any service organization ever. We celebrated October Birthdays and Anniversaries.
October is Rotary Community Economic Development Month. New RI President Shekhar Mehta says, "When we work to improve the lives of people in underserved communities - through, for example, projects that provide vocational training and access to financial resources - we help build and sustain local economic growth".
