This week's meeting will be held starting at 5:00 PM on THURSDAY at Caddyshack, 2023 West Superior Street. There will be no Zoom meeting as the background noise would make it difficult to hear. It will be a happy hour meeting in the Craft District. Appetizers, sandwiches, and flatbread pizzas are available. Indoor Golf, Laser Shooting, Pool, Ping Pong, and board games are available. The ventilation system has recently been upgraded to provide a safer indoor environment. Stephanie and Chris LaFleur are great hosts. Invite your Craft District and Rotary friends to join us.
The Board met last Wednesday. There will be a Rock the Skyline meeting this Wednesday and a Peach Committee meeting this Thursday following the happy hour.
Mark will schedule a Past Presidents meeting with Trish Crego for her to become our newest member.
Dave Thompson is the student Rotarian counselor for Hermantown High School. He will have students ready to join us in October. Working with students is fun. If you have an interest in working with students at Hermantown, Proctor, or Marshall high schools, please let Russ or Mark know and we will include you.
September is Rotary Basic Education and Literacy Month. New RI President Shekhar Mehta says, "Empowering people through education is among the boldest goals we have as Rotarians. One child, one teacher, one book, and one pen can change the world".
Thought for the Week
Twenty years ago, on September 11, the Rotary Clubs of New York and Staten Island refused to cancel their meetings. Walter Parks, President of Staten Island Club said, "as Rotarians we could express our feelings and grief. It was time to share and vent". Rotarians from around the world responded with compassion. Later Walter Parks commented, "It will be hard to forget the tragedy of September 11. But I will not forget the camaraderie and compassion shown by Rotarians. That was Rotary at its purest. I will remember that or the rest of my Life."
