Welcome to Skyline Rotary

Duluth Skyline Rotary is a member of Rotary District 5580
Skyline Rotary Meets weekly on Fridays at 12:00 PM.
We will be meeting both virtually using Zoom and/or in person at the Duluth YMCA:
Duluth YMCA: 4289 Ugstad Rd. Hermantown, MN 55811 - Driving Directions

We will meet at the YMCA this Friday, March 10th, 2023.

Our program will be a 20 minute video of a presentation by RI President Elect Gordon McInally at the International Assembly
in Orlando on January 9th. In his presentation he announces his 2023-2024 Theme of Create Hope in the World and explains why he selected that theme. He is an inspiring speaker and brings a tremendous message to us for next year. Hopefully there will be some follow up discussion. Duties this week will be: Invocation Greg Kaake, Fellowship - Deb Almirall, and Greeter - Mark.

Wednesday, March 8th is International Women's Day. RI President Jennifer Jones will be part of a panel discussion on Facebook live Go to Rotary on Facebook to register.

Trish asked the Club to support the Rock & Roll Masquerade Ball that is sponsored by Choice Unlimited which is a non profit that, "empowers individuals with disabilities and fosters a culture of inclusiveness". Trish asked that we provide a silent auction basket similar to what we do for Rock the Skyline.
The Ball is this Friday the 10th at Greysolon Ballroom. Please bring an item to the meeting this Friday or get an item to Kris Lee sooner.

Our guests last week were our speaker Charlie Johnson, Dan Dock from Club 25, visiting Rotarian from the Fargo Moorhead PM Club Kriss Burns and her guest Christina Perez and Alex Schult guest of Kevin.
Todd Peyton shared a thank you letter from Russell Habermann for our Club's support for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library project. He sent along a copy of the first book that is sent out to all children who join the program. The book very appropriately is, "The Little Engine That Could" - I Think I Can - I Thought I could."
A book a month in the homes of children who might not have had books. What a marvelous idea and thank you Todd and Skyliners for supporting this grand program.
Charlie Johnson gave us an overview of the history of the Dragon Boat Festival. It started in the year 2000 and at its peak included almost 100 teams. They now believe that 50-60 teams is the sweet spot to maximize profits and not overburden the facilities. This is the biggest annual event held in Superior. There is a lot of momentum within the community of sponsors, volunteers, and community attendees even though Covid stopped the event for a couple of years. Charlie explained that their Club considered three scenarios going forward; to end the event, to continue on their own, or to look for a partner. They chose to come talk to us because of the many relationships that we already share. They would like to see us participate on planning committee work along with volunteering the weekend of the event. I will send an email to all Club members asking if they will support partnering on this year's Dragon Boat Festival and the list of committees and activities that they are willing to participate on. Then we will get back to the Superior Club with our response.

March is Rotary Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Month.

Thought for the Week
"This is a time to honor the achievements of women around the world and raise awareness of the work that's still needed to achieve equity".
