2023 PEACH TICKETS ARE HERE. Mark has them and will bring them to meetings or deliver them to you. We need to sell tickets!
This Friday, July 28th we will meet at the Enger Golf Course Pavilion just behind the Clubhouse. Lunch will be served and then golfers will head out starting at 1:10. No Duties and no Zoom as we are offsite. Just a casual social gathering. Thank you to Russ for making the arrangements.
Last week our guests were: Luke Matthews from Superior Club, and our presenters Kerrie Holschbach from Forest Lake Club and Honorina Honorati from Karatu Club in Tanzania.
Luke Matthews spoke about the need for volunteers for the days of the Dragon Boat Festival. There is a list of tasks and of how many volunteers are needed for those tasks. Matthew will get the list to us for sign ups.
Our presenters were from "Food for His Children" a US based non-profit NGO. www.foodforhischildren.org Kerrie Holschbach was the Founder and is the Executive Director. Honorina Honorati is the program Director for the Tanzania program which now has 25 employees. Tom Meyer met them at the Tri-District Conference and asked them to come speak to us. Karrie got her degree in social work from UMD so see was happy to be back in Duluth. Their program started in 2008. Phase 1 of their project received a Rotary Grant. They have purchased 3 acres of land for a farm and innovation center which will be phase 2 of their project to help break the chain of poverty. In the area around Karatu 49% of people live below the poverty line. They are currently working with 300 families who they provide with a goat and teach farming skills, and provide health care. This is another area of the world where clean water to drink is a real problem for the health and safety of the society. The sincerity of Kerrie and Honorina's commitment was inspiring.
Dr. Bob McClellan, a long time Superior Club member and a great Rotarian held a retirement party last Sunday. It was great to see the Rotary and Superior community come out to help him to celebrate his great veterinary career and the next phase of his life.
There is a movement to revive the Paul Harris Dinner. Skyline hosted a great one two years ago. It looks like the upcoming one will be co-hosted by Harbortown and Superior.
Russ sent out the invitation to play in or sponsor the Valley Youth Center Gopher Golph Classic on Friday, August 4th with 9:30 shotgun start at Nemadji Golf Course.
July is Rotary Maternal and Child Health Month.
Thought for the Week
"Just because a child's parents are poor or uneducated is no reason to deprive the child of the basic human rights to health care, education, and proper nutrition".
