Project Joy has been promoting the issues of childhood hunger since our inception 8 years ago. We started Project JOY as a way to put grief into action after losing my husband to brain cancer January 06, 2012. Patrick made a decision to “choose JOY” when given his terminal diagnosis and it is with that spirit that Project JOY was founded.
We recognize that life is not always fair….there are hard things in this world. When deciding in what direction to throw our passion and support, we decided that the issue of childhood hunger was one that grabbed our hearts. NO CHILD SHOULD BE HUNGRY!! For many years we turned our fundraising efforts to raising money for the local backpack program. With your help thousands of children received weekend packs of food to help fill the gap of food insecurity in their home. You helped raise money, fill backpacks and spread the word whenever a need arose. We are extremely proud of all that has been accomplished and are grateful to watch that program be a huge success in this community.
Because hunger “ hides” ….there are many other areas of childhood hunger that we hope to “bring to light” with the help of our wonderful supporters of Project JOY!
The House of Hearts has helped forward our mission with their celebrity bonspiel by making Project Joy their charitable partner. We couldn’t be more excited to work with them again. We have found a group of people who have such passion for a cause and have fun raising money while doing so much good!!
This year we are expanding our reach to hunger that hides throughout our community. We are thrilled to announce that the 2020 HOH proceeds will be split between the following: -Boys & Girls Club of the Northland Healthy Meals Program
-The Families in Transition Program (FIT) at the Duluth Public School District
-The United Way of Northeastern Minnesota’s Buddy Backpack program
You can find a detailed explanation of each of these worthy programs on the House of Hearts website : www.hohduluth.org
Thank you for all the ways you support this community….by talking about issues of childhood hunger with your children, coworkers, families and friends we have been able to make a difference in the lives of those living with food insecurity in the Northland. Stay tuned for ways you can help!
