Welcome to Skyline Rotary

Duluth Skyline Rotary is a member of Rotary District 5580
Skyline Rotary Meets weekly on Fridays at 12:00 PM.
We will be meeting both virtually using Zoom and/or in person at the Duluth YMCA:
Duluth YMCA: 4289 Ugstad Rd. Hermantown, MN 55811 - Driving Directions

We will meet this Friday 7/25 at the YMCA. Our program will be a presentation by Gus Olson our Outbound Exchange student. Duties this week are: Invocation - Mark, and Fellowship - Joe.

What a week for Skyline leaders and all Skyliners to be proud of. The YMCA Block Party was a tremendous success and Skyline members and families were instrumetal in that successful collaboration. With quick turnaround our leadership and Public Image group got tents, a booth, shirts, and peach signs made so that the 1000 Party attendees saw who Skyline Rotary is in our community. Meanwhile in far away Crookston Mark helped to facilitate a family of eight high school students through a life changing week of Rotary Youth Leadership Camp. Mark will speak briefly about his experience. We are a fun, casual, and very active Club of friends.

Guest last week was George Tuttle who is doing his clinicals here and was an exchange student from a Twin Cities Club. He plans to continue to visit us. Emily expressed her thanks to the Club for helping with the very successful Block Party. Harbortown Rotarian Greg Wegler spoke about Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a non-profit that builds and provides beds for kids in need. It is a national 501 C3 organization that establishes local chapters to serve communities. There is now a Duluth Chapter. Their slogan is, "No kid sleeps on the floor in our town". The Chapters work with the help of the national organization to raise funds, build and deliver beds and bedding. They stress the importance working with volunteers. This sounds like a very good collaboration with Rotary. Our Board will consider a role for Skyline.

I heard from PDG Kay Biga that the Pachel Foundation she manages will be sponsoring a night at the Duluth Playhouse again this Fall on September 11. The musical will be "Million Dollar Quartet" set on December 4, 1956 at Sun Records in Memphis when Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Elvis Presley had a jam sesssion. This will be free to Rotarians and guests. Be there or be square.

July is Rotary International Maternal and Child Health Month.

Thought for the Week
"Some of the best indicators of a country developing along the right lines are healthy mothers giving birth to healthy children who are assured of good care and sound education that will enable them to face the challenges of a changing world."
