We will have a conversation with Ashley Anderson and Morgan Bergman from the Y about the ECFE program, planting the Kids Garden, and picnic tables for the kiddos. Duties will be: Invocation - Judy Rogers, Greeter - Suzanne Anderson, Fellowship - Russ Salgy.
Tuesday, June 4th at 10:00 we will meet at the Kids Garden and work with the kids to plant this year's vegetable bounty. Come dressed for playing in the dirt and bring hand planting shovels if you have them. Be ready for lots of smiles.
Guests at our meeting last week were: Dan Dock from Club 25, Amy Louhela guest of the Club, Fred Rouse from Harbortown, and our speaker Carol Cyr.
Alex gave an update on the restart of the Twin Ports Rotaract Club. She and Kadie will be visiting the Twin Ports Clubs to ask for their support. Kadie is in charge of "Concerts on the Pier" at Glensheen and she and Alex will be recruiting Rotarians to attend the July 10th Boss Mama concert.
Our own Tom and Susan Meyer and Carol Cyr from Saint Benedict's Church told us about the amazing mission trip that they made to Belize City to build housing for those in need there. This was Carol's 9th mission trip to Belize City. Construction was very difficult due to the heat and humidity and the swampy soft ground that settled quickly. Sewage was run into ditches along the road as there was no municipal system. They worked with a local parish in Belize City to determine who should receive help with housing. The mission group team brought gifts in their travel luggage for those who have so little. Tom brought soccer equipment as a gift from our Club. The needs are great and the mission group's hearts are greater. Thank you Tom, Susan, and Carol for your heartfelt work and the presentation.
Kay Biga mentioned that there will be another Rotary evening at the Duluth Playhouse in September. It will be the dress rehersal before the opening of the "The Jersey Boys", the Tony award winning musical about the Four Seasons. I might have to sing along.
May is Rotary International Youth Services Month. Youth bring energy and enthusiasm to our Clubs. Rotary provides many opportunities for youth including Student Rotarians, Youth Exchange, Scholarships, The 4-Way Essay Contest, Interact and Rotaract, and many more.
