Welcome to Skyline Rotary

Duluth Skyline Rotary is a member of Rotary District 5580
Skyline Rotary Meets weekly on Fridays at 12:00 PM.
We will be meeting both virtually using Zoom and/or in person at the Duluth YMCA:
Duluth YMCA: 4289 Ugstad Rd. Hermantown, MN 55811 - Driving Directions

We will meet at the Clyde this THURSDAY the 3rd at 5:30 for a social dinner. There will be no Zoom given the expected background noise.
We will order off of the menu and there will be no duties, just socializing. There will be no regular meeting on Friday at the YMCA.

Next week's Friday meeting 3/11 will be back at the YMCA where we will hear from the Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank about volunteer opportunities. Duties will be: Invocation - Dave Michelson and Fellowship - Deb Almirall

Last Thursday and Friday were the North Central Presidential Elects Training (PETS). It was a virtual training for Club PEs sponsored by District 5580 (ours), 5960 (St. Paul and SE MN), 5950 (Minneapolis and SW MN), 5970 (Iowa), and 6000 (Missouri). There were 350 attendees and not just from the four sponsoring Districts. Other PEs from around the country joined us. Mark facilitated a break out group for 5 hours over the two days which included 10 PEs.

Guests at last week's meeting were: David Lewis, Club 25 visiting Rotarian Dan Dock, and our Speaker from Memorial Blood Centers, Michele Keil.
David Lewis was inducted last week and he is our newest Club member. Please continue to make David feel welcome as you already have been doing. We look forward to David's input on projects and programs.
Michele Keil is the Senior Account Manager for Donor Recruitment from the Duluth Memorial Blood Center. She told us that 38% of the population is eligible to donate blood but only 9% does. When surveyed the primary reason given for not donating was that they were never asked. MBC supplies all of the northland hospitals and air ambulance services. The ambulance services carry O- negative blood because it is the universal donor. Blood is shipped to where is can be used before its 42 day expiration. MBC is struggling with staffing shortages like so many other businesses so they are currently only doing large blood drives. Michele suggested that we select a month or week and recruit folks to donate at their existing Donor Center. Let's talk about selecting a time frame and recruiting Club members, families, and friends to donate.

March is Rotary Water and Sanitation Month.
Our Club's District grant Nigeria project is a WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) project. Our funding is providing the water well system and the mound sanitation system for the Health Care clinic.
