This Friday we will meet at the Hermantown Elementary School Outdoor Classroom. There will be no Zoom as we will be off site.
The Outdoor Classroom is in the woods on the north side of the Elementary School. Directions: Turn north off of Arrowhead Road next to the water tower. Turn left into the school parking lot and follow the road past the playground to the basketball courts where you can park and then follow the asphalt path to the Outdoor Classroom. Please leave the asphalt path to the Classroom open for Earl to be able to be dropped off. Picnic lunch will be served there. We will dispense with some of our usual meeting activities in the interest of doing some work and planning for upcoming projects on the site. When Greg and I met with a couple of the teachers who use the site they and their students really enjoyed and appreciated the Classroom. There has been some wear and tear over its twenty years that we can easily fix and then make some upgrades. Bring a shovel for digging up some of the pavers that we will level and reset.
June is Rotary Fellowship Month.
Last week’s presenter was Skyliner Brian Tasky. He talked about the Splash Pad project that was put on hold last year. He showed pictures of many of the Splashpad projects that he visited. There is a new Administrator in Proctor who has expressed interest in the project. Next steps are for our Board to vote, to establish a 501C-3 non-profit to help with fundraising, and to write a formal proposal.
Jeramy Katchuba joined the meeting and wishes to rejoin the Club. We will be happy to facilitate that. Matt spoke to us from the UP about a couple of biking service projects; one with COGGS and another to assist with the Harbortown Bike Festival at Spirit Mountain. Earl mentioned an opportunity for Skyline to piggyback on the Dragonboat Festival in Superior. More details on all to come.
Next week's meeting will be the Changing of the Guard held at Barker's Island Inn. Happy Hour is 5:30 and Dinner at 6:00. Let Chris Sward know how many are attending and your choice of chicken or veggie lasagna. chris.sward@amiengineers.com or 218-341-5758.
There won't be a meeting on Friday the 2nd.
The Air Show set up crew meets this Thursday then 27th at 8:45 at Gordy's on Highway 53. Look for Genny's white Caravan.
North Shore Rotary Club will be holding their Lyle Northey - Forekids Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 26th at Lakeview Golf Course starting with breakfast and 8:00 AM tee times. Proceeds will go to students for RYLA, Scholarships, and Interact. This year's event is particularly special as Lyle passed away in this last year. Thought for the Day
"To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. That is to have succeeded!" Ralph Waldo Emerson
Please note that I have scheduled recurring Zoom meetings for the rest of the Rotary year.

See you on Friday. This is a sneak peek of the health care center in Nigeria that we were recently awarded a grant to help build. We hope to share a Zoom meeting with the Maryland Club in Nigeria and our Club at a future date.
