We will meet this Friday, March 22nd at the YMCA. Our presenters will be Executive Director Patrick Plonski, PhD and Kimberly Sannes from the organization Books for Africa headquartered in St. Paul. "Education is the great equalizer in the world and books are the foundation of a strong educational system". Basic Education and Literacy is the first of RI's Seven Areas of Focus. We were sad to hear from Julia that Marty Byrnes passed away last Friday. Marty was a regular guest at our meetings until he had a severe stroke that took away much of his physical and mental capacity. Marty was a visionary leadership trainer and led RYLA as Director from 1998-2016. He was a North Shore Rotarian, and he will be remembered but missed.

Lunch will be served. There won't be a Zoom connection. Please plan for a noon program start. The Center provides comprehensive addiction treatment and recovery services. Brandon Torgerson, the Center Director, will speak to us.
Guests last week were: Proctor Student Rotarians Abbey Schunk and Carlie Blevins, and three associates of Lindsey's from Bell Bank.
We met at Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge Center. Brandon Torgerson, the Center Director, told us that their mission is to gain freedom from chemiocal addition. Their organization has 1200 facilities globally. There are four in Minnesota. Their work is in prevention, teen treatment, longterm recovery residential (14-90 days), and long term residential (12 months).
Club Planning is underway for attending the District Conference in Fargo on April 11-13th. For first time District Conference attendees the Club will pay their $170 registration fee. We are looking at housing sharing and ride sharing. Registration is now open so go to the rotary5580.org website, register, and then submit the expense to Judy Harrison.
March is Rotary International Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Month. Our Club received a WASH grant to provide the water well system and the waste system for the medical clinic built with our partners, Equal As One in Nigeria. There can be no good health if there is no clean water to drink and sanitation system to prevent the spread of disease.
March is also Women's History Month
