This Friday, October 21st we will be back at the YMCA. We will have a planning discussion about duties for our Rock the Skyline Concert/Fundraiser. Then we will watch a Rotary video. Duties will be: Invocation - Chris Sward, Fellowship - Greg Kaake, and Greeter - Sarah Boynton.
If you need a costume for the Rock the Skyline Concert contact Trish at tcrego@jpjeng.com or 218-310-0121.
Here are the things that we need from Club members for our Rock the Skyline Concert to be successful; invite folks to come to the concert by buying tickets on line on our website, bring silent auction items of $25-$50 value (wine/liquor bottles, gift cards, art items, etc all will work) to our setup at 10:00 next Friday.
Next week, October 28th is the Rock the Skyline Concert. Lunch will be pizza at Clyde at noon as usual. No Duties.
Last week our guests were: PP Harry Podgorski, Student Rotarian from Hermantown - Jayden Lind, From Proctor - Joshua Monrel, Ellie Folkstad, Sofi Lynch, Madison Twaddle, Garret's son Colton Suihkonen, and David's kids Macer and Emmerlee Lewis, and special guest Anna Wicklund.
What an amazing meeting we had! Kris and Trish brought and served cake and sparkling drinks to celebrate Matt and Anna Wicklund's surprise wedding the previous weekend. Congratulations to Kris, Matt and Anna and we wish you happiness and love. Kris' invocation spoke about her Rotary family and the love that she feels. It doesn't get any better than that.
Our speakers were Larry Pajari, the new President and CEO of Northwood Children's Services, and Morgana Kolenda, the Director of Resource Development. We are very fortunate weekly to hear speakers from organizations in our community who are committed to helping address our most difficult challenges. Northwood Children's Services works with children at risk. Larry started by asking us what trama is. Later he answered the question with sexual abuse, physical abuse by the people who are supposed to love and protect them and instead they hurt them. The programs at Northwoods help kids to relive their trama in order to survive and move on from it. The average age of their program kids is 11.7 years. Schools are bursting at the seams with mental health problems, but there is a 6-9 month wait to get into programs. Larry invited us to consider helping by becoming a Board Member, or attending their Annual Gala on March 9th. We were pleased to hear Larry say, "We hug kids".
Upcoming Rock the Skyline Committee Zoom meetings will be tomorrow 10/19 at 4:00 and on 10/26.
October is Rotary Community Economic Development Month.
Thought for the Week
“Our family is a circle of strength and love. Our family with every birth and every union the circle grows, our family is a circle of strength every crisis faced together makes the circle stronger"
