We will not meet this Friday, April 5th.
We will meet again next Friday, April 12th. Our presenter will be Patrick Andrews, Hermantown Hockey Coach.
We met last week at the Depot. Skyliner Jason Young, the Development Director for the Depot Foundation was our host. The Foundation supports the organizations housed in the Depot; the Lake Superior Railroad Museum, Minnesota Ballet, St. Louis County Historical Society, and the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra. Skyline recently contributed to the, Arts For All, Scholarship program. Jason told us that passenger train traffic in the Depot stopped in 1968. In 1971 the Foundation was started. In 1979 the Depot was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We toured the trains which is always fascinating for kids and kids at heart. Ken Buhler gave us a tour of a special railroad car along with the history of its role in the discovery of hemitite on the range, its relocation to the shores of the St. Croix River, and its relocation and restoration in the Depot. Thank you Jason.
