Guests last week were - Visiting Rotarian from Downtown Dan Dock, and from Edina Catherine Gump, Presenters Eric Lagergren, Joe Wicklund, and Max Vergeldt.
We heard from Tom Meyer that the planning committee for the Duluth District Conference has started their work. Visiting Rotarian Catherine Gump is the wife of Tom and mother of Starr. Tom was recognized in this month's Rotary Magazine for receiving a Service Award for a Polio-Free World.
Joe Wicklund from the City of Hermantown started the presentation about the Nothstar Ford Arena by talking about how it was funded in part by a 1.5% sales tax. The State provided $7.5M through bonding. The current cost for the arena is $24M. Max Vergeldt from Kraus Anderson is the construction manager for the project. There are 36 subcontractors currently working on the project. Eric Lagergren is the Project Architect from DSGW Architects. He talked about the planning process which includes a new varsity locker room, 700 fixed seats, a donor wall, and sliding doors in the entryway that are user friendly for hauling hockey gear bags and a walking track. Eventually the District office will be moved to the building. Joe ended with the comment that, "We have the best hockey program in the Country, it is what we are known for".
