Skyline Rotary Meets weekly on Fridays at 12:00 PM.
We will be meeting both virtually using Zoom and/or in person at the Duluth YMCA:
Duluth YMCA: 4289 Ugstad Rd. Hermantown, MN 55811 - Driving Directions

We will meet this Friday, June 21st at the YMCA. Our presenter will be John Waldorf of Braver Angels.
Duties will be: Invocation - Tom Meyer, Greeter - Deb Almirall, Fellowship - Lindsey Whitlinger.

I hope that you all stayed dry during tonight's rain storm.

Thank you to Jim Curtis for his offer last week to encourage members to get fit and to raise some money for the Club.

Alex and Kadie have visited the Twin Ports Clubs and have a plan for upcoming meetings to engage the local colleges and universities, and to recruit students and young professionals in the Fall. It is exciting to see the restarting of a Twin Ports Rotaract Club. The Twin Ports is a major Rotary area and should have a college age and young professionals Club. Thank you Alex and Kadie for your hard work and vision.

We received a nice thank you from the Children's Organ Transplant Association for our support of Roya's Hope Walk. Roya is a 1st grader at Lester Park Elementary who recently received a life-saving heart transplant. This is one of the very many ways that our Club supports the needs of our community by working hard at our fundraising events. Thank you Skyliners.

Guests at our meeting last week were: Our speaker Deb Ellingsen from Women's Care Center, Amy Louhela, Dan Dock from Club 25, Gus Olson our Outbound Exchange Student and his Dad Justin, Dr. Bob McClellan from the Superior Club, and Mike Waldron from 23rd Veteran.

Dr. Bob and Mike Waldron gave us an update on the 2024 Dragon Boat Teams. There are 36 teams committed so far and another 19 in the discussion stage. We are working towards 50 teams again this year.

Gus Olson gave us some background about himself, his family, and friends. We learned that he is a musician, hurdeler, crocheter, and skier. Gus will come back at least once more before he leaves for Thailand to talk about where he will be. I can't remember the last outbound exchange student who Skyline sponsored. It will be exciting to share his adventure. We will have a send off party if Gus leaves from the Duluth Airport.

It was great to see Hugo again. He is done with teaching for the summer and is doing lots of traveling and biking.

Lindsey introduced Deb Ellingsen from Women's Care Center. Deb had previously worked with the Essentia Foundation. Women's Health Centers were started in 1984. There are now 36 Centers nationwide. The Duluth office has a staff of four who provide classes, education, pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and support like diapers (11,000 provided free). Thank you Lindsey for bringing this program to our Club.

Kay Biga mentioned that there will be another Rotary evening at the Duluth Playhouse in September. It will be the dress rehersal before the opening of the "The Jersey Boys", the Tony award winning musical about the Four Seasons. I might have to sing along.

June is Rotary International Fellowships Month. There are many Fellowships with members locally and around the world.

Thought for the Week
"In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit".
