Duluth Skyline

Duluth Skyline Rotary is a member of Rotary District 5580
Skyline Rotary Meets weekly on Fridays at 12:00 PM. We will be meeting virtually using Zoom until further notice
This week's presenter will be Daniel Plys, and he will talk about his adventure and fundraiser longboarding trip down the Mississippi River. Duties are: Invocation - Hugo Hietapelto, and Fellowship - Joe Dusek.

Next week's program is TBD with Duties: Invocation - Garret Suihkonen and Fellowship - Tim Leutgeb.

This is the second publishing of Aaron Winkelman to become a member of Skyline Rotary. Even though he is not official yet we should all congratulate him on his birthday this Saturday the 27th. Happy Birthday Aaron!

Kris Lee now has access rights to modify the website (thank you Hugo). She has some update plans already, but will need all of our help to provide good current content hopefully with smiling pictures of us doing service projects. Some historic pictures with stories would be great too. Please chip in.

There are two attachments below. One is the agenda for the Free Bemidji Virtual District Conference. The second is pictures of the expanded family of Brian Tasky. Sylas is now 8 months old.  Beautiful family Brian and Kelly! Brian also mentioned that the Hermantown Schools outdoor classroom is being used a lot during the pandemic, and they are asking for some wind screening, furniture repair or replacement, and other small maintenance. Greg will follow up.

The District Conference Agenda includes two sessions of special attention. On Thursday the 29th at noon for members who are newer to Rotary there is a session called Rotary Basics presented by Patty Baltz who is the District Trainer. This would be a good starting point. On Friday the 30th at noon we will tune into the Conference as a Club to hear RI President Holger Knaack speak. To register for the conference go to: www.Bemidji2021.com

During our Vaccine PSA working group meeting last week we learned that Essentia is gearing up for a major vaccine clinic site projected to start in mid-April. They are asking the local Rotary Clubs for help with wayfinding, paperwork, greeters, and other non-medical trained help. Anyone who volunteers will receive their shot if they haven't had one yet. I will keep you posted for sign ups when available. Maybe we could do work as a group.

Jim Curtis mentioned the 23rd Veteran Nearly Naked Ruck March which will be held this Saturday the 27th starting on Skyline Parkway. With a son in the military he plans to participate in this fundraiser to support veterans. They hope to raise $150,000 and as of Tuesday had raised $101,000. For more information or to register go to www.impact.23rdveteran.org

There were two District 5580 PDGs recognized in the April Rotary magazine In Memoriam column. John Damberg from Virginia DG 1987-88, and Paula Timmins from Thunder Bay Port Arthur DG 2005-06. We thank them for their service and honor their memories.

Last week's guests were: Jodi May, Stacey Johnson, and speakers Chris Fleege and Jenn Moses.

Chris is a past Harbortown and Superior Rotarian who worked for Minnesota Power and then Superior Water, Light and Power for 27 years. He currently is Director of Planning and Economic Development for the City of Duluth. Jenn Moses is a senior planner for the City. They presented the current status of the Enger Park Development Project. The project will be located on the current 10 acre site of the golf course driving range and parking lot. The project will include affordable housing, but is in the very early planning stages and so the types and numbers of housing have not been determined. The City is working with the Consortium Development Group, Keith Baker, who grew up in Duluth. The City has held 6 public input meetings. Proceeds from the sale of the land will fund the needed revisions to Enger Golf Course to replace the driving range and parking lot and to add an irrigation system, new clubhouse, and improve some tee boxes and fairways. Construction at Enger Golf course is scheduled to start this summer so golfers plan accordingly.

Mark Leutgeb is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
