This THURSDAY THE 18TH at 5:00 PM we will have a Happy Hour meeting at the Caddyshack at 2023 W Superior Street. There will be pizza and appetizers. There will be no regular Friday meeting on the 19th. There will be no duties on Thursday as this Happy Hour is just intended to be for socializing. We will sneak in a some peach discussion as we are just a week and a half away from the peach truck arriving. Please clear your calendars so that we have plenty of help at the truck on Friday the 26th and Saturday the 27th.
An important note for those of you who send mail to the Skyline Rotary mailbox. The Miller Hill Post Office where our box was is closing. The Club's new P O Box is 563, Duluth, MN 55801. The new address is on our website and has been reported to RI.
Last week we had a really good crew to work on the benches/tables at the Hermantown Outdoor Classroom. We completely repaired 5 of the 7 benches/tables so that they should last for years to come serving the many kids who use the classroom. We will sneak in the repair of the last two after one of our regular meetings. Suzanne had me take her picture next to the bench that she repaired because she wanted to send the picture to her Dad who taught her to use tools and would be so proud. Prospective member Adam Daoust showed both skill and willingness to work hard. The Board approved his application to become a member and this is the first of the two times publishing him before he can be inducted.
We are sorry to say that PP Marisa Conley submitted her resignation from the Club, but we are pleased to say that she is transferring her membership to the Chisago Lakes Rotary Club which is close to her home in Stacy. Marisa started the Rock the Skyline Concert during her presidency and served one and a half terms to step in when PP Brian Asker was called to start a church in Mankato. Thank you for your service Marisa, and we wish you good luck in your personal, professional, and Rotary life.
On Wednesday the 10th the Board met at Bent Paddle for a meeting and cake on Mark's birthday. We agreed to construct the project brought to us by Trish Crego being called Hawk's Nest at the Hermantown Community Center. It will be a 10' x 10' wooden roofed structure that will be used as a learning stage/shelter. The materials will be provided. We will look for service opportunities with the Ronald McDonald House when Tara Gallagher speaks to the Club on 9/23.
The Rock the Skyline committee will meet by Zoom at 4:30 next Wednesday, August 24th.
July is Rotary Membership Month.
Thought for the Week
“We need Rotary Leaders to rise from every continent, culture, and creed. We need young members and young thinkers to take on larger roles and responsibilities. We need to listen to new Rotary members just as keenly, and with as much respect, as those with many years of membership.".
Wise words from RI President Jennifer Jones in the August Rotary magazine.
I have scheduled recurring Zoom meetings for this Rotary year.
