Welcome to Skyline Rotary

Duluth Skyline Rotary is a member of Rotary District 5580
Skyline Rotary Meets weekly on Fridays at 12:00 PM.
We will be meeting both virtually using Zoom and/or in person at the Duluth YMCA:
Duluth YMCA: 4289 Ugstad Rd. Hermantown, MN 55811 - Driving Directions

This week's meeting will be held at the YMCA. This will be a hybrid meeting. October 24th is World Polio Day. A Pints for Polio fundraiser flyer for Sunday the 24th at Bent Paddle Taproom 2:00 - 4:00 will follow. We have World Polio Day shirts so please take one and wear it on Sunday. The eradication of polio is the most ambitious humanitarian goal that any service organization has ever committed to. We will watch a World Polio Day video by RI President Mehta and discuss Rotary's role in Polio Eradication. We will also talk about preparations and logistics for next week's Rock the Skyline Concert. Duties are: Invocation - Trish Crego and Fellowship - Russ Salgy.
Our meeting next week will be at the Clyde with pizza lunch as we set up for the concert.

Guests at last week's meeting were students from Proctor High School; Shana Isaacs, Hedrick Hicks, and Elaine Lynas. Visiting Rotarians from Club 25 were Mike Orman, and Ryan Johnson. Guests of the Club were Dave Thornton, Clara Leutgeb, and Alex Peterson.

We heard an update on Hugo's hip surgery which went well.

Suzanne Anderson was inducted as our newest Skyline member. Welcome Suzanne. We are pleased to have you with us.

Dave Thornton from VYC told us plans for the two raised bed gardens which were completed by a hard working crew of Jim Curtis, Tom Meyer, Jay Ferguson and Mark on Saturday.

Tim Leutgeb introduced Alex Peterson who is the taproom manager for Duluth Cider. Alex talked about being a Rotary Exchange Student to Breman, Germany. He talked about staying with three families and how he was treated as part of the family. He said that the most positive part of his trip was the monthly meetings with other exchange students from around the world that was hosted by former exchange students. He learned to speak fluent German in about five months and said that learning by immersion was the best way. Thank you Alex.

Rock the Skyline Tickets, posters, and sponsorship forms are all available at the meeting or check with Mark.

October is Rotary Community Economic Development Month. New RI President Shekhar Mehta says, "When we work to improve the lives of people in underserved communities - through, for example, projects that provide vocational training and access to financial resources - we help build and sustain local economic growth".

I have scheduled recurring Zoom meetings for this Rotary year.
