This Thursday and Friday are the North Central Presidential Elects Training (PETS). It is a virtual training for Club PEs sponsored by District 5580 (ours), 5960 (St. Paul and SE MN), 5950 (Minneapolis and SW MN), 5970 (Iowa), and 6000 (Missouri).
Guests at last week's meeting were: PP Harry Podgorski, Sarah Boynton, David Lewis, Anna Khramova, Polina Scarlet, Felix Meyer, and Club 25 visiting Rotarian Dan Dock.
Bob Sherman brought another great program to us. It was the story of an international service project started in 2009 by the Duluth Area and Kambarka, Russia Rotary Clubs to create a school to improve the language skills of both "mainstream" and disabled children. Rotarians from Duluth including our own Earl Rogers went to Kambarka after raising $70,000. The Sunrise Linguistics School started with 10 students. One of the students, Dasha Kostina, came to Duluth in 2011 with her mother to have surgery to correct her scoliosis. Essentia provided this life changing surgery gratis. The leader of the school, Anna Khramova, and two students, Polina Scarlet and Felix Meyer joined us by Zoom from Russia and Germany. Bob stressed the peace building aspects of this project. This is a story of the good that can be accomplished by people of goodwill working cooperatively through Rotary between nations around the world.
Next week's meeting on Thursday the 3rd will be a dinner social held at the Clyde starting at 5:30. There will be no duties; just socializing. There will be no regular Friday meeting on the 4th.
February is Rotary Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution month.
Thought for the Week
