Guests last week were: Dan Dock from Downtown and our speakers from the Duluth NAACP Chris Davila and Doug Bowen-Baily. February is Black History Month. Chris is the Treasurer and Doug is the assistant Secretary of the Board of the NAACP. Doug is a sign language interpreter and has been on the Board for 25 years. The Duluth Chapter of the NAACP is one of the oldest and largest Chapters in the Country. The Chapter was started after the lynching of three Black men in Duluth which is now remembered by the Clayton McGee Memorial. The NAACP is a totally volunter organization. The Duluth Chapter focuses on policy and systematic change. They talked about the Freedom Fund Dinner which was held the next night at the DECC. Proceeds from the dinner (which Skyline helped to sponsor) went to their new non-profit named, "Ignite, Empower, and Transform". At the dinner Chris mentioned having spoken to our Club and how he sensed the feeling of community which he explained was what changed his life.
