Duluth YMCA: 4289 Ugstad Rd. Hermantown, MN 55811 - Driving Directions

We will meet this Friday 1/16/2026 at the Y. We will have lunch and then head over to tour the new NorthStar Ford Arena. Duty this week is; Invocation - Greg.

The January Skyline Board meeting is tomorrow Wednesday the 14th at noon at the Depot and by Zoom.

Correction: Congrats to Emily and the YMCA for their consolidation and renaming to the Lake Superior YMCA.

Guests last week were Curt Teberg, and Downtown Rotarian Dan Dock.
It was good to be back together after a couple of weeks and to see Judy back and walking well from her hip replacement.
We received Thank you notes from the Hermantown Support Staff for the Holiday Family and from Life House for the Holiday Dinners. Thank you Skyliners! Thank you to Lindsey and Bell Bank for making a generous "Pay it Forward" donation to Skyline Club. President Kevin presented a mid-term report with the progress made towards his goals and a promise to continue his good work.
Deb introduced Daniel Gohstand who joined us from Hawaii by Zoom. Daniel is a professional photographer who she met on a cruise to Hawaii. Daniel is a regular visitor and supporter of a small Mayan community, Santa Maria De Jesus in Guatemala. The community is in the mountains and has unfortunately suffered from earthquakes and floods. There is no support from the federal government. The main roadway washed out which is how the villagers get their produce to market. The city's water system was damaged as were their schools. They can use whatever help they can get. A Club in Fargo has a connection to a Rotary Club in Guatemala City. We will talk to them and see if we could get grants for WASH or schools.

DGE Peter Johnson would like Clubs to be thinking about pursuing Corporate Memberships. When we think about the major employers and institutions in our communities, how many of them have members in our Clubs. We should develop a Club plan for attracting those groups including a plan that allows multiple of their members to participate in Club meetings, service projects, and fundraisers.

Last week Rotary International rolled out a Servant Leadership training for Districts to review and use as they wish. This is not a "How to run your Club" training like the President Elect Training. It is a "pure" leadership training which will apply well to Rotary leaders at all levels as well as crossing over to help member's careers. We completed week one of five and will evaluate the training between the handfull of District 5580 attendees after week five. The training includes videos, hardcopy materials, and breakout sessions. It looks like it will deliver on the understood Rotary promise of leadership training and opportunities for its members.
