This Friday we will meet at the Hermantown Outdoor Classroom in the woods behind the Elementary School. Take Hawk Circle Drive (by the water tower), turn into the parking lot by the playground, drive across the basketball courts to the walkway until you see the opening in the woods to the Outdoor classroom, and park along the walkway. No duties this week. We have a few projects to do. We will put some river rock in the swale behind the classroom, install the gutter and downspout, and do some more work on the benches. Dress for manual labor and bring a drill if you have one. The kids use this facility and the surrounding trails all of the time. Let's make it better for them to use.
Wednesday the 8th at 4:00 is the June Board meeting at Bent Paddle Taproom. All members are welcome to join us.
We talked about Karl Norman at last week's meeting, and how his sister in law made a donation to Mano a Mano and that the next clinic built in Bolivia will be dedicated to him. Todd E. asked if Club members could also donate. Harbortown Rotary is currently fundraising for the clinic and will get a Rotary grant. If you wish to donate you can send checks to the Harbortown Rotary Charitable Foundation C/O KSG/Greg Goldman, 130 W Superior St, Suite 926, Duluth, MN 55802. Note that it is for the clinic dedicated to Karl Norman.
Our presenter was Natalie Zeleznikar. She has 30 years experience in healthcare administration, is the author of a book, "The scars you can't see", and is running for the Minnesota House of Representatives. She spoke about the crisis in nursing homes and assisted living. The combined demographics of a smaller workforce, larger senior population, and limited government funding and extensive regulations are making the business unsustainable. The pandemic put significant additional stress on the workforce which caused burnout and departures. Natalie requested a Club membership application.
Thursday, June 16th 4:30 at Duluth Cider will be a Happy Hour meeting. There will be music at 6:00. No duties. Then there will be no meeting on Friday the 17th.
On Wednesday, June 22 at the Great Lakes Aquarium DGE Kay Biga from ECO Club here in Duluth will be inducted as District 5580 Governor. The celebration starts at 5:00. Go to https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040848a8a82ca3fe3-district to sign up.
