President Kevin handed out Peach Sale yard signs.
Mark spoke about his experience as a facilitator at RYLA held on the Campus of the U of M Crookston. The staff of 20 are the key to the success of the camp. They are all past campers and volunteers. Their commitment and competency is what makes the camp successful. There were 57 campers this year. The optimal number is 90. Mark is committed to seeing that young people from our communities take full advantage of this life changing opportunity. PP Harry attended camp in the past and also spoke about the change that he saw in campers from the start to the finish of the week. Group activities are the heart of the camper's training experience. They learn how to work together to achieve goals. Campers are asked to write personal mission statements which includes introspection. The campers have tremendous fun. Whenever there are a few down minutes someone turns on music and they begin to dance. Let's make it a goal of our Club to send two students to RYLA next year.
I heard from PDG Kay Biga that the Pachel Foundation she manages will be sponsoring a night at the Duluth Playhouse again this Fall on September 11. The musical will be "Million Dollar Quartet" set on December 4, 1956 at Sun Records in Memphis when Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Elvis Presley had a jam sesssion. This will be free to Rotarians and guests. Be there or be square.
July is Rotary International Maternal and Child Health Month.
Thought for the Week
