This Friday 5/6 we will meet at the YMCA and our presenter will be Amber Lewis (David's spouse). Amber will speak about Uniting For Democracy, a non-partisan organization to achieve a shared understanding of different views to advance democracy. This will be a hybrid meeting. Duties will be: Invocation - Garret Suikkonen, Fellowship - Joe Dusek, and Greeter - Tom Meyer.
It's Party time this Friday! There will be a party to celebrate Mark's District 5580 Rotarian of the Year from 4:00 - 6:00 at the Caddyshack, 2023 W. Superior Street. There will be food, cake, and refreshments.
Next week's meeting will be held at the Boulder Lake Environmental Center. Do not use your GPS to get you there as it will take you to the wrong place. I will send a map and have copies of the map at this week's meeting. Some members of the Eco Rotary Club will join us. We will install a pollinator garden on the roof of the bunk house and then measure the shore house window openings for screens, for window shutters, and an opening for a door. The screen house repair project will be done at a later date. We will start before lunch, eat lunch, and finish up early afternoon. Wear work clothes and gloves. Tools and materials will be on site. There will be no Duties as this will be a work project.
Saturday, May 21st we will be back at the Valley Youth Center working on raised bed gardens. Demo work to remove the previous timbers will be done so we will be installing the block enclosures.
Skyline Scholarships are being awarded this Wednesday to Brydon Kolenda and Henabeth Cook from Proctor High School.
Last week's presenter was Sarah Lerohl from WLSSD. Sarah talked about the services that WLSSD provides to their 530 square mile service area. The SAPPI paper mill in Cloquet is their largest water treatment customer sending 15 million gallons per day for treatment. Their combined heat and power project will generate 50% of the electricity needed to run their processing plant. The bidding for the project is completed and the project will come on line in 2024.
Wednesday, May 18th from 4:00-6:00 is the May Board meeting and the 2022-2023 Planning Meeting. All members are welcome to attend in-person or by Zoom. The meeting will be held at the Minnesota Power Employees Credit Union. There will be a Club Assembly held on May 27th to discuss the 2022 - 2023 Plan with the Club.
May is Rotary Youth Services Month. Our projects at Boulder Lake and VYC will serve youth.
