November 1st Meeting
Greetings Rotaractors!

It's hard to believe November is nearly upon us.  With the turning of the calendar comes our next meeting this Wednesday.

Our speaker this week will be my sister Janice who went to Guatemala on an optical/vision mission trip earlier this year.  She will be speaking not so much on the mission itself, but more so on her experiences and takeaways from the trip in general.

A month from now, at our first December meeting, we'll be having our annual brain storming/planning session for the upcoming year.  Please start thinking about some fun things you'd like to see Rotaract make happen!

We are also approaching the early bird registration deadline for the Rotary International Convention in Toronto next June.  The deadline for discounted registration fees is December 15th which is quickly sneaking up on us.  If you are interested in attending and haven't already put your name forward, please let me know asap.

Thanks everyone and see you on Wednesday.

Laurie

1. Welcome, Introductions & What Went Wells

2. Guest Speaker
  • Brett Nymeyer, Classification
Brett was born and raised in Stratford. He attended the University of Nebraska on a golf scholarship. He played pro golf for 5 years. He travelled all around North America and Bermuda and has gotten to play with some golfers who are now on the PGA tour.

Brett works at Libro Credit Union. He is getting adjusted to not being his own boss.

His dad is a longstanding Rotary member and Brett wanted to join Rotaract because he thought it would be a good way to give back to the community.

Brett is a big sports fan. Big Bluejays fan. He is involved in many fantasy pools—4 hockey pools and 5 baseball pools.

Goal was to make it to 30 and then reassess at that point. He turns 30 in a year.

He is interested in getting his mutual funds license and his CSC. His degree was in finance.

His favourite food is pizza.

Brett lived in Myrtle Beach during the winter when he was living in the US. He played about 40-50 golf tournaments in a year.

He stopped playing golf when he wasn’t enjoying the process anymore.

Golf is an expensive sport and you are on your own (food, hotel, gas, entry fees, etc.) It can cost up to $3000 per week.

He won a bunch of tournaments around here and tied for second at the Quebec open at one point. He has won 7 events as a pro.

His favourite golf course is Beacon Hull in Ontario. And there is one in the US where the Wells Fargo championship was this year that he also really liked. There is one just outside of Houston that is only open 6 months a year. It is very expensive, but the money goes to charity and it is pristine.

Brett also got to work with some very well known instructors which was a great experience.

Brett has some trips coming up. He is going to Oklahoma City, Ottawa, Banff, and then Hawaii.

Brett is a Calgary Flames fan.

He also plays competitive fastball in a Huron County league. He is a pitcher.

Mirna Atteyam and Mirna NGE Participant from Egypt
Mirna and Mirna did a presentation for us. They are both from Alexandria, Egypt. They provided some geographical information about Egypt.
Both are graduates of the faculty of Dentistry at the University of Alexandria. They discussed the dentistry program, which lasts 5 years. Their internships will begin when they return to Egypt.
They shared some information about their families and the city of Alexandria where they were both born and raised. They also shared information about Cairo, Egypt’s capitol, and some other major tourist areas. They shared stunning photographs of landscape and architecture.

They shared some photos of popular Egyptian foods (that looked delicious).
They shared photos of the faculty of dentistry.

Rotaract club of Alexandria Cosmopolitan. It was established in 1996. It was established by the Rotary club of Alexandria Cosmopolitan. It is an English-speaking club.
They discussed the World Down Syndrome Project for World Down Syndrome Day.
They shared examples of their International Projects—involving their previous exchanges. Mirna has been to Germany and Brazil on exchange.

Biggest surprise about Canada is that we complain about traffic and it is nothing compared to Egypt.

They are in Canada for 1 month (10 days left)
