6) Below are the minutes from our previous meeting.
Town Counselor in Mitchell 2010-2014 – youngest member of council.
Elected in 2015 to MP
Conservative Member of Parliament; The Conservative Party is now in a leader race, which is an interesting dynamic.
Local focus at federal level: Jobs and economy
Locally – we don’t have enough people to fill jobs.
Long term labour planning is lacking locally.
Rural broadband – large pockets that do not have access to high speed Internet. Presents all kinds of challenges for business and personal life. Working with telecommunication companies to work on this
Needs going forward – labour issue – need to address labour and skill shortage
Infrastructure funding – roads, bridges, broadband; facing big challenge in rural communities. Funding is based on applications rather than formulas. Advocates for formula based funding – based on geography, etc.
On the Official Languages Committee
Advice: stay involved in the community; continue volunteering. This is something that is rare in our generation. Stay active, stay involved, and continue to be a strong voice on policy.
Advice on growing membership: word of mouth is more meaningful. Personally ask someone to come out and join. Ads and social media only go so far.
