1. Welcome & Introductions	Kelly Daum
2. Guest Speaker Joani Gerber, CEO of investStratford, has been in the role for a year and has done this presentation three times in the last month to service clubs. -Played a video about Stratford that discussed what autonomous driver’s means for Stratford, in terms of safety, the development of a trillion dollar corporation. -Started in the festival parking lot. This resulted in trying to establish the long term presence of this development. This lead to 4 ach. of city owned property that is located across from the dump. This is a four year partnership. - Why Stratford – We move quickly, we are more personable (able to meet that day), and we work together to make things happen. 30 km of wifi throughout the city, which has contributed to the city’s ability to mobilize quickly. Partners are close in Waterloo and Toronto. Part of the largest IT cluster in Ontario. Manufacturing is the largest industry in Stratford. There are 15 000 tech companies and start ups within close proximity. - Autonomous Vehicle Innovation Network is an 80 million dollar project. Stratford is the provinicially recognized demonstration zone for all tech development. Stratford is making vehicle-to-infrastructure investments. We will continue develop as a test city by allowing ideas to be tested (ex a new steering wheel idea). It will expand outside of the 4 ach. lot into the city. Stratford experiences a lot of weather, which is an incredible benefit to development. What’s next: Ten Ontario sourced vehicles on Stratford streets that will be used to demonstrate for future customers and adopters. This will happen over the next five years. They are looking at hydro vehicles and buses and how this can be a benefit. -There are seven companies given approval to test autonomous vehicles. Some are being tested in Ottawa and this got up to 55km/h. Testing requires a driver to be in the vehicle ready to take over at any given moment. (The term driver assist is commonly used). The ultimate goal is create safer road ways, as most incidents are because of human error. -Joanie pointed out we are already seeing autonomous tech in our vehicles. Cruise control (level one autonomy) , lane correction (level two), or the newest tech where your car slows down when you get too close to the vehicle in front of you (level three). Level 4 and 5 autonomy is a decade away. They continue to work with insurance providers and tech development to make this a reality. Development costs millions of dollars. Replenishment of tech is a consideration. Example: a phone lasts 24-36 months. This cost of tech replacement is considered going forward. -There are 24 stop lights in Stratford. -Joanie is open to questions and encourages that her office gets contacted. -Other areas working on autonomous driving are: Waterloo is doing mapping. Durham is doing wind testing. Ottawa is working on communication. QA and thoughts -Driverless and assisted cars could open the door to allowing people with disabilities to have a vehicle and improve transportation. -Electric vehicles will be autonomous, but is not uniquely linked to electric vehicles. -What happens when the power is out, or you come into a non-connected community? These are times when the driver would have to take over. We want the cars to “fail” so we can learn to improve our product. -The changes in provincial driving laws, or countries where you drive on the opposite side of the road. -GM 2019 will have a vehicle without steering wheels or peddles. Tesla is close. - Public transportation was discussed. Joanie states Stratford is a seed fund, attraction and a business development that will lead into challenging tasks like this. Funding is key component on how moving forward will look. -Eventually there will not be a steering wheel. Then there is the question about motorcycles and classic car enthusiasts.	Joani

4. Standing Items 4.1 Club KUDOS To Rebecca from Laurie for attending the Youth Services meeting with her To April from Kelly for launching our instagram account To Geoff from Lauren for joining her trivia team To Rebecca/Kelly/April from Charlene for attending the area three dinner 4.2 Reminder that Dragon Boat Festival is September 15, please save the date. There are three three hour shifts. Laurie passed around a sign up and this will be available on clubrunner. We will also be reaching out to the Interact clubs. We receive a portion of the proceeds for helping out. We will be helping boaters in and out of the boat and getting rid of water. 4.3 District Rotaract Committee discussion – looking for liaison from our club to join in district discussions as the Committee is formed.This will be in the 2019/2020 year. Sarnia club president is spear heading this. We are looking for a liason for the rotaract portion. Kelly is asking that anyone interested email her. This looks to be incredible interesting partnership that can allow us to work together project. 4.4 Goderich Rotaract -Golf tournament being hosted by the Goderich Rotaract September 8^th. -August seventh social we are invited to the goderich beach social. 4.5 Opportunity to host BBQ over the Civic Long Weekend – still looking for volunteers. Samsonite partnership. WE are looking at the Saturday 4^th or the Sunday 5^th. It’s an opportunity to gain some funds and some publicity. Email Kelly or Charlotte. Geoff also shared the local is hosting a food fair on the 4^th. This is going to also raise awareness about their projects. 4.6 Shine On Dave Blackburn Memorial Car Rally and Show is August 11^th and we are still looking for volunteers. Laurie is the contact on this. Still not sure what we will be helping with. Smart Serve announcement – The board has decided we will reimburse members for obtaining the smart serve certificate. This is for the online course without the manual. You can order the manual but we will not cover that cost. 4.7 Back to School Smiling – looking for some shoppers to spend some cash! This is $750 on backpacks and then we will help stuff at our August meeting. HOB has particulars for the backpacks. Kelly will provide info. It might be a great opportunity to reach out to Staples or Samsonite and see if we can leverage spending power.
5. Business Arising 5.1 Meeting Make Ups -Rebecca explained that make ups are anything we do outside of rotaract and that they are used when we are unable to attend a meeting. Examples are: 1 make up for every dragon boat shift, attending a rotary meeting, helping at trivia etc. -Rebecca would like to be updated on a quarterly basis. 6. New Business & Idea Sharing 6.1 New Member Inductions Nick Preikschas 6.2 Social Media Contest - “Rotaract Inspires Me To…” do whatever you want (Write in the sand, group photos, etc) we will use the hashtag #rotaractinspiresmeto we can do this after our board posts. WE can make this into a video at the end of it. 6.3 Make ups – to be shared quarterly 6.4 My Rotary – online toolbox to improve the membership experience. It can help improve the club. If you would like to learn more there is a webinar next Thursday July 26^th from 7:00-7:30. The registration will be circulated. April to watch and report back to the club, but anyone interested can participate. 6.5 Laurie and Rebecca attended the Youth Services meeting in regards to the mentorship program. We will have more information at our next meeting. 6.6 Peter Maranger wanted to share that the noon club is wanting to be more involved with Rotaract.
