Ami gave a quick update as to where we are with Skate48 preparations for February 21st.The upcoming Skate48 tournament expects 32+ teams (up a little from last year), with planning emphasizing tighter schedule and volunteer deployment to improve flow and player experience without overburdening our volunteers. Club volunteers will be coordinated via email, targeting availability for the full day to cover 3 rinks this year (up from 2 last year). It will be All Hands On Deck!
We have generated a one-page summary document will help recruit new teams and inform potential participants about the event’s format and benefits. The committee anticipates some last-minute openings and we are actively seeking replacements and new teams to maintain full participation. It is a natural process for teams to drop off from year to year so we need to keep attracting new teams to offset this attrition and hopefully grow the event back to where we were pre-pandemic.
Engagement with the hockey community is key to filling team spots, with club members encouraged to leverage their networks and pass leads to event organizers for new teams. This isn't just about today, year round if you have leads for new teams, let us know!
This tournament serves as both a community event and a corporate team-building opportunity, increasing its appeal and potential base of support. We need to maintain an outreach to continue sustainable event growth and strengthens ties within the local sports community if we are to meet our goal of growing back to where we were.
