Additional Information:
Mine Centre school serves breakfast each morning. A cart is filled with all the prepared food and is brought into each classroom by a staff member. The coordinator runs the program and also holds full-time jobs within the school. The coordinator is responsible for planning, ordering, and preparing all meals, as well as monitoring the budget and completing reports. She begins her day each morning at 7:00 a.m. and often works after school hours on ordering, budgeting, menu planning and prepping for the next day. We are an isolated community, and our student population is located in two separate communities, which are roughly 20 kilometers away from the school. Many parents don’t have access to transportation, so volunteers are non-existent, aside from occasional assistance from staff members. Most or all students utilize the breakfast/lunch program every day while we are in school. Many students arrive at school with no food at all, insufficient food or food with little nutritional value. Often our breakfast foods are used to supplement lunches as well.
Your contribution to our nutrition program is greatly appreciated, and we could not run our program without your generous support.
Yours Truly,
Cecilia Stewart Principal
