On May 14, 2019 we welcomed all our 2019 Local Allocations grant recipients to our meeting to celebrate.Anne Brubacher Chair of the Local Allocations Committee presided over the meeting.

Mission statement: “We believe in directing the majority of our charitable donations to projects which involve children and youth aged 18 and under. We believe in planting seeds, investing in people and helping youth and children who have physical, mental or spiritual needs. We believe in supporting projects that will make a significant impact. Our primary focus is on non-profit or charitable organizations that can demonstrate that they are financially viable. Together, we can make a difference in our Community by investing in our Children and Youth.”
The allocations committee provided $55,000 in grants to 31 organizations. The job was extra challenging this year as they had requests for more than $134,000 from 56 non-profits and schools.
A list of the uses of our grant funds in 2019 is as follows:
- book-writing club (multi-language)
- camp for Grade 6 students
- Jump 2 Math sensory path (hallway floors)
- purchase books for home reading program
- sports fee support for eligible students
- water bottle filling/hydration station
- financial assistance for extra-curricular sports and arts activities
- reserve fund to assist underprivileged children for school trips
- physical education equipment for less mobile and autistic students
- anti-bullying magic show, and, story telling presentation
- grade 8 graduation trip assistance (3 students)
- purchase technology learning kits
- school-wide yoga - Wellness/Mindfulness initiative
- Wellness Room purchase items for room and replace some items
- purchase chromebooks
- bench
- sport team uniforms
- AMES workshops for 9-11 girls
- chromebooks/iPads for ESL learning
- off-site learning for new Canadians (transport, lunch, speakers, etc)
- "Lidz on Kidz" education program
- free summer camp for low-income children
- fund therapy pony (Danny)
- provide new infant car seats to families in financial need
- send 1 or 2 newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes children to D-Camp
- sport/dance grants for underprivileged children
- education support for clients
- purchase new and replacement refrigerators
- fund ice time & maintain/purchase safe equipment for hockey program
- transportation and fee subsidies for low-income students
- Backpacks (clothes and school supplies) for first day of school
