2005-2006 Theme Selected
Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar has chosen a familiar theme for the first year of Rotary's second 100 years. Service Above Self was selected in 1911 as the motto for Rotary because it so aptly articulated the ideals that the fledgling organization was in the process of developing. By choosing this motto as our theme this year, Rotarians will have an opportunity to reflect upon the true meaning of Service Above Self.
As with anything that has become an innate part of our lives, it is easy to take the Rotary motto for granted. As we renew our commitment, as Rotarians, to this timeless message of compassion and generosity of spirit it will offer us an opportunity to determine who we can best embrace our motto. For 95 years, this motto has served as the underlying motif of our efforts to carry out humanitarian service, promote high ethical standards, an dwork for international understanding and peace.
