Skate 48 - February 18, 2012

Saturday February 18th marks the 22nd annual Skate 48 Hockey Tournament hosted by the Rotary Club of Kitchener Grand River at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex. This one game challenge style tournament which is attended annually by over 60 teams has provided many entertaining but competitive hockey days while raising funds for charities and other worthwhile causes in our community and throughout the world. Over the 20+ years of this event, almost $2 million has been raised!
For all the details go to the event website at www.skate48.com.
Teams challenge each other to a one game hockey duel with the winning
team having the honour of eating steak or roast beef and the losing team
receiving hot dogs at the post game party. All participants receive a
commemorative shirt or jersey that has long been coveted in dressing rooms
around the region.
Participants are encouraged to raise funds throughout the
community and prizes are awarded on an individual player basis based on the amounts
raised. Donations are tax deductable and all amounts $10 or greater will receive
a donation receipt. Download a donation form here in either Excel or pdf
format.
The objective is to have every player obtain a minimum of $150 in
donations and each team to raise a minimum of $1,500 in donations.
Free refreshment tickets are provided to all teams raising over $1,000.
Here are the details for this year's installment. Please write
down the date and inform all your players to save the date:
Date: Saturday, February 18, 2012
Location: Kitchener Auditorium and Kinsmen / Kiwanis ice pads
Time: 9:00 am to 8:00 pm
Team registration will take place on Monday, November 14, 2011 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at:
Zeke's Restaurant
607 King
St W.
Kitchener
Please bring your registration fee of $75 per team and book your
time on the 10th. We would like all team captains or a representative from each
team present at 7:00 p.m. for a brief discussion on this year’s event.
Preference will again be given to return teams for time slot selection based on
amounts raised from the prior year but as always we try to accommodate
everyone's requests. Please come on the 10th and pick up your kit, challenge
another team, and have a refreshment on us. Please note that the registration
fee increases to $100 after December 1st. Also please bring a representative
for any new teams that would be interested in taking part in this year's event.
Note: It would be very helpful if the captains could bring their
registration form already filled out. This will speed things along and allow
more time for captains to mingle, meet other teams to potentially challenge,
and provide more time for refreshments and food.
I will be your team's coordinator again this year. I can be
reached at 578-4150 or jpm@giffenlawyers.com, alternatively Blair Haley is the
Skate Chairman again this year and can be reached at bhaley@skhdentistry.com
(work).
This is our 22nd Annual Skate 48 and with your help we
can make it a great day and a great chance to support the kids of this
community, which need our assistance.
Yours very truly,
John Murray
