Our guest speaker this week was Shaun Harris from L2P Murraylands. The purpose of this program is to assist people aged 17 plus achieve the required 75 hours of driving to complete their Learners Permit. It will provide access to a vehicle and mentor for those eligible community members who do not have support to complete their Learners Permit. Studies have shown that a number of people in our community do not have available means to either a car or a mentor to achieve their required hours which then limits them in obtaining employment and vital everyday needs. RDAMR in partnership with Energy Education Australia and support from the Rural City of Murray Bridge the program hopes to be up and running by mid year. RDAMR will form the lead program agency in program coordination developing the program over the next 12 months. With thanks to Duttons Hyundi a vehicle has been purchased and set up ready for the start of the program. L2P Murraylands is seeking support from the community either as a volunteer / driving mentor or financial sponsorship. For more information you can contact Shaun Harris on either 08085357170 or 0427039944. There is also a meeting on March 4th at 6pm-8pm at Regional Development Australia Murray Bridge, 137 Adelaide Rd. Rotarian Christine Willersdorf who is an Employment Facilitator (An Australian Government Initiative) is also involved in the project and has seen first hand the benefits for not only an individual but for the entire family when someone is given this opportunity.
