District Assembly 9510

I would like to encourage you to register for this year’s District Assembly which will be held at  Charles Campbell College on 1st May.

The District Assembly is for all Rotarians who want to learn new ideas and best practices – especially incoming club leaders who are looking to strengthen their skill set(s).  At this event, you can learn more about the different programs of Rotary, explore ways to become more involved at club and/or district level, and meet members from other Rotary clubs.

Who should attend?
  • Club Presidents and Presidents Elect to work on transition planning for the coming Rotary year.
  • Incoming and prospective club board members to learn what Rotary has to offer beyond the club level.
  • Newer members to attend specific sessions for orientation purposes.
  • Any Rotarian who wants to know more about our great organisation! (This event is open to ALL Rotarians )
The Incoming District Governor will be presenting Rotary International’s theme and objectives for the coming year together with his plans and vision for the district. In addition, there will be an excellent selection of break-out sessions on a wide range of topics that are sure to be of interest you.
Guest Speaker, Colin Wagener, RSL
At 104,  Colin is the oldest member of the RSL. He spoke to the club about a WW2 colleague who had also served in WW1 and was thus nicknamed ‘re-tread’ , known as Re-tread Ted.
Re-tread Ted was a practical joker and Colin told the story of one of Ted’s japes when they had to sleep on a dirt floor in a hut, the story involving a latrine with holes in the bottom. Very amusing and interesting.
Colin was warmly thanked by President James.

Seargeant Ian Rose: Fined us as usual and told his weekly joke.
Treasurer Rod had previously said that one reason that club subscriptions were not increased was that the fine session makes a significant contribution to the membership account.

President James closed the meeting with the following quote:

‘Common sense is not a gift, it’s a punishment because you have to deal with everyone who doesn’t have it’.

Meeting closed at 8pm.
