Induction of Randall Smith
Randall.
you have been chosen for membership of the
Rotary Club of Mt Barker
because of your standing in your vocation and in the community and because of your personal qualities which we believe will make you a good Rotarian.

By joining the Rotary Club of Mt Barker, you become part of a world-wide organisation of business and professional leaders, united in fellowship to provide humanitarian service, to encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and to create goodwill and achieve peace throughout the world.
We accept you as a member because we believe you will adopt these high principles of Rotary as your own, and that you will do everything you can to fulfil your membership obligations as these become better known to you.
There are, of course, many privileges of membership and I think you will quickly find that one of the most important of these will be your regular enjoyment of the friendship of like-minded individuals in an egalitarian atmosphere, not only in this Club, but anywhere Rotarians gather.

Your proposer and mentor is  Rotarian Shawn Hutchinson.
Your Rotary lapel pin, should be worn at all times.
It will identify you as a Rotarian and will assure you of a warm welcome in 36,627 Rotary Clubs in over 200 Countries*; also your Name Badge  includes your classification.
This is important as it signifies the vocation you represent to which you are an ambassador to Rotary.

Rotarian Randall, we expect much from you in the way of fellowship and Rotary service and we in turn pledge to make you welcome in the Club and to assist you to grow in Rotary knowledge. Please contact President James personally if you experience challenges in your assimilation into the Club or if you believe you possess talents, of value to Rotary that we are overlooking. It is with pleasure that we extend to you the right hand of Rotary fellowship & give you a hearty welcome as a member of the Rotary Club of Mt Barker.
Our donut van in action  at the Lobethal Lights.
Club Christmas party host, Peter Schaefer

This will be held on Sunday the 19th December.  There will be a Secret Santa so please bring a gift to the value of approximately $10.  If your gift is gender specific please label.  Unfortunately Santa cannot attend as he is too busy. At Peter's home there are two driveway entrances forming a U shape.  They are numbered 248 and 254.  Both will have a red ribbon attached.  Please find a space to park your car and leave room for other cars to drive past.  BYO drinks.  Peter has rung everyone attending and personally arranged with them what food to bring.  He has enough chairs.

Guest Speaker, Sally Harding

As a former press photographer, Sally is used to getting good results, fast. She also has a lot of experience working with difficult subjects in difficult conditions so working with children and animals,  or Rotarians, is no problem! Moreover she's a mum and an animal lover.

Sally’s editorial background and deep love of dogs are reflected in her photography, which is simple but powerful. Her work regularly appears in newspapers, magazines and calendars and is known for its honesty and warmth. Sally's first book, City Dog Country Dog, is published by Wakefield Press - click here for more details.

Sally lives in the Adelaide Hills with her partner Kieran, a graphic designer, and their two lively children.

And then , a very special Christmas treat for club members, from Penni and Ray Taylor,  presenting,  from Abracadabra Entertainment, Santa's number one elf, Alabaster Snowball.  Merry Xmas to all!
Serious Christmas fun was had  at the RC Mt Barker where members  were entertained by the funniest and most magical Christmas Elf.. ALABASTER SNOWBALL!
His mates in the North Pole call him Al and you can too! He is more than a green, oversized, bumbling Elf, Alabaster is a talented roving entertainer, amazing balloon twister and  spread the joy of Christmas at our meeting with magic, mystery and fun! Not without a little help from his friend Sally Harding.
Alabaster offered walk around entertainment.
Alabaster tailored his performance to suit our adult audience with help from Margaret Rose.
Our Jo makes contact with Alabaster Snowball.
Alabaster brought a bright and fun atmosphere to our meeting  and Jack Cooper  absolutely loved him.
Mary Roebuck was fixated on him!
Newest Rotarian Randall Smith, wants to say thank you so much for making his induction such a great one with Snowball's talent and humour.
And he did pull a rabbit out of the box - with the help of Penni Taylor, under the table!
Sergeant Ian Rose fined nearly everyone as usual and made us laugh some more.

President James's quote of the week:

"Progress is man's ability to complicate simplicity."

Thor Heyerdal
