Michael Bagshaw, Operation Flinders sub-committee coordinator.
Last Thursday (25 Nov) Michael attended the Operation Flinders field volunteer’s dinner at the Zoo. It was a great night, and as with all Op Flinders functions, it was very well organised and run. It was a general thank-you to the field volunteers, with various awards presented by the chair Kevin Scarce, and CEO David Wark.

From Michael's perspective it was nice to see the old faces again in a different setting.

It was announced that the organisation has secured $1.25 mill in annual govt funding. This covers 25% of total required funding.

Besides the flagship program – the one that Michael  does is school based and consists of the eight day walk. There are changes to names of other programs. All programs are branded with the familiar footprint, this symbolises moving forward in life. A good metaphor for anyone really.

In terms of the program name changes, they are:

  • Next Step - New name for the Peer Group Mentor program – young people taking the next step in their development.
  • Step Out - New name for Individual Referral Program – stepping out of comfort zone and taking on new challenges.
  • Venture Beyond - Name for programs that are held for special needs client groups eg. Holiday Explorers (intellectually disabled people), Legacy, SASY (Special Assistance School for Youth).
  • Venture North - Name for programs that are held for corporate clients
Step out and Venture North, are fee for service offerings that will help to fund core programs. The Step Out program is funded by a 3-year grant from BankSA.
PDG Peter Schaefer, Host of Club's Christmas party
There are  only 19 days until the Christmas Party on the 19th December from 12.30 pm.  A Club Runner invitation has been sent to all members. Please notify Peter or Penni of any medical food allergies.  Lunch will be a bbq. A request for salads and desserts will be made later.  Only 30 people are able to attend a private home so if more than that wish to attend,  the party will relocate to a public outdoor venue.  There will be a Chris Kringle with a limit  of $20.  If necessary Carola will be COVID Marshall.
John Rowley, President RC Blakiston
John wished our club a Happy Christmas and a wonderful 2022.  For those who live in Nairne, the RC Blakiston will donate funds to residents in both Littlehampton and Nairne for the best light display.  As there will be no pageant this year, the club decided to donate 2 prizes for the same cost.

The Mayor will present the prizes at the Nairne Carols.
Guest Speaker, Rose Vallen, President of The Adelaide Repertory Theatre (the ARTS)

Were you aware that The Adelaide Repertory Theatre is the oldest continuous surviving amateur theatre company in the Southern Hemisphere?

THE FIRST ONE HUNDRED

An Adelaide Rep Portrait

From humble beginnings in piano teacher/composer Bryceson Treharne’s classroom in the Elder Conservatorium, North Terrace, Adelaide, the organization now known as The Adelaide Repertory Theatre (affectionately now known as The Rep) began in 1908. Treharne’s students met to read and discuss plays, and to learn of the exciting European modern drama movements of the day. After six months, they decided to stage W.B. Yeats’ Land of Heart’s Desire and George Bernard Shaw’s A Man of Destiny in the North Hall at the Elder Conservatorium, calling their fledgling company The Adelaide Literary Theatre, a name which was to remain for six years. Interest and curiosity from most of the audience inspired the class to stage further productions. Experienced outsiders gave assistance – curtains were added and candles and acetylene lights assisted by reflectors made very passable footlights. The season was a crowd pleaser and more of Adelaide’s amateur players came to join the group. Residents of Adelaide, realising the value of the project, offered to pay subscriptions to see more plays. A committee was formed.

Rose showed us historical photos of some of the Rep's productions and spoke about NO MERCY FOR LATE-COMERS, THE LITERARY DRAMA SCENE ,A BUILDING BEGINS , POURING THE FOUNDATIONS, THE LITCHFIELD LEGACY and SECURING THE FUTURE.

The 2022 season .  Subscriptions are available for $80.  What a great Christmas gift.

2022 Season at the Rep (ARTS) for September and November. Help to maintain the building at the  ARTS by  supporting  your local theatre.

Sergeant Ian Rose fined nearly everyone as usual and made us laugh.
