Thousands of hungry people have walked through the doors of the Bridgewater Inter-Church Food Bank and all leave saying thanks to the volunteers, especially to the coordinator, Gloria Hubley.  Now the Rotary Club of Bridgewater & District wants to say thanks as well by naming Gloria Hubley a Paul Harris Fellow.  Paul Harris, a Chicago lawyer, started Rotary International with three business associates in 1905. "We first met Gloria when we decided to help the struggling Food Bank by insulating the building,” said Karsa Melnick, Rotary Club President.  “It didn’t take us long to realize how much time and effort she devoted to the needy and we wanted to recognize her as an outstanding volunteer in our community. Bestowing this honour would be the perfect way to do that,” added Ms. Melnick.

Rotary International established the Paul Harris Fellowship as a way of showing appreciation for contributions to its Foundation that funds much of Rotary’s work around the world.  A worthy person can be designated a Paul Harris Fellow on the making of a donation of $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation.

“Rotarians honour an individual with this distinction as a tribute to that person whose dedication demonstrates a commitment to a better life for people around the world,” said Ms. Melnick.  “This certainly describes Gloria, and why we gratefully made a donation in her name.”

During a ceremony at the Club’s regular meeting on March 17, Ms. Melnick  presented Ms. Hubley with a certificate signed by the Rotary International President and the Chairman of the Trustees of The Rotary Foundation and a Paul Harris lapel pin. Also on hand was Bridgewater Mayor David Walker and Lunenburg District Mayor Don Downe, who both expressed their appreciation to Ms. Hubley on behalf of residents of Bridgewater and the Municipality District of Lunenburg.
