On Friday Oct 25, 2024, RCOF members participated in a Potluck for Polio Event. It was a night of tasty food, fun and games in honour of World Polio Day! Members brought their best dishes (and takeout) along with a donation of $20, which will go towards the PolioPlus Fund of the Rotary Foundation.
We are excited to relaunch our signature STEM Saturdays program which has been a signature service project of RCOF for the past eight (8) years. Any student in grades 5 and 6 at the Adelaide Primary School (which is a public school) may enrol. This year 30 students have enrolled in the program. The sessions are held every Saturday from 8am to 12noon. The students are provided with breakfast, lunch and all supplies required at no cost to them or their parents. Parents and teachers of the students enrolled in the program have praised the program stating that they have seen significant improvement in these students' grades and demeanour.
In partnership with Bahamian businesses: Louis & Steens Market Orleans Coffeehouse, Wicked Wings, BakeHouse and Mudda Freeze Ice Cream Shop, RCOF executed its World's Greatest Meal Initiative.
Special food items were identified with each business and with each purchase, a percentage of the proceeds will be donated to the Rotary Foundation PolioPlus Fund. Rotarians, their family and friends from all across The Bahamas were excited to participate in this worthy cause to help Rotary End Polio Now!
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, RCOF members attended our Club Assembly in shades of pink!
During the Club Assembly, Board Members shared progress reports of various committees and initiatives, and RCOF members participated in decision-making for the future and betterment of our club. We also held our Board Elections and congratulated the board of directors for the year 2025-2026.
Lastly, we celebrated Rotarians who banked the most makeups for the first quarter, Nakeshia Bain and Robyn Curtis showing their commitment to RCOF and announced the winner with the most votes for Rotarian of Quarter 1, Community Service Co-Chair Robyn Curtis, who has been a dedicated Rotarian and board member assisting with the various service projects throughout the year!
During October, RCOF shone a light on Community Economic Development Month. For our first general meeting of October we were excited to welcome guest speaker, Mrs. Latia Duncombe, Director General of The Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation. Director Duncombe shared on the topic: Tourism as a Catalyst for Economic & Community Growth. The Director General engaged in a lively discussion with the club and shared valuable insights on how the Bahamian tourism sector can not only boost the economy but also enhance community development and cohesion across the nation.
