Guess the member:

Guest Speaker:
Tony Lang spoke to the Club. Tony has car collection of over 50 classic cars. Tony will show his car collection as part of a fundraising event in 2020 with proceeds directed to the Walkerton Hospice Project. This will be the 6th Private Collectors Car’s Garage Tour held in the Mildmay area with different local service clubs participating and organizing the event. For 2020 many local service clubs will work together to host the event.
Tony shared photos and provided a quick summary of many of his cars. His collection of cars includes a 1917 Abbott Detroit which was guaranteed for life when it was built. Only problem is the Abbott Car company went bankrupt in 1918. There is a 1928 McLaughlin Buick which was driven by the Royal Family on their visit to Canada. There is a Corvette Pace Car that was purchased by accident! The story goes that Tony was showing some friends how he was bidding on a 1969 Camaro through a live auction app on this phone. The next morning Tony check the records and it seems as though one of his friends touched a wrong button and purchased a car on Tony’s behalf! He said the story is with the money that he likely over spent on the car.
Tony prefers big convertibles with the biggest engines available. Other cars in his collection include a 1934 Packard, 1929 Oakland (built by GM), 1961 Chrysler 300, 1963 Ford Galaxy, 1954 Corvette Convertible (x 2), 1966 GTO, 1970 Chevelle, 1916 Dodge, 1933 Peirce Arrow and a 1929 Packard that is not yet fully restored, but has over $400,000 invested into the restoration.
Tony’s collection was really something else. His knowledge of each car and the enthusiasm he brought when discussing each car was infectious.
Graham Gardiner thanked Tony on behalf of the club.
Meeting adjourned with another solid bell ringing by President Laura.
