Presentation: Kim Rodrigues the CEO of Child Witness Centre
The Child Witness Centre is a small organization of 15 staff
Kim thanked the club for the $4,000 donation towards technology
The organization provides support to children and youth victims of crime and those who have witnessed crime through the Court process
The organization began as a grass-roots organization created by citizens concerned about crimes against children
The Child Witness Centre is the lead organization for the Child and Youth Advocacy Centre (CYAC)
The Centre is a collaboration between Waterloo Regional Police Services, Family and Children’s Services, Women’s Crisis Services, Carizon Community Services, Child Witness Centre and the Crown’s Office
The CYAC provides collaborative and wraparound services to child victims of crime and their families
The CWC served over 1200 children and youth last year
Kim discussed the incredible high statistics of children and youth reporting incidents of physical and sexual abuse
We know that not all victimized children and youth are receiving services and so advocacy and increased awareness of supports available to them is important
Our club provided a $4000 grant to the Children’s Witness Centre of Waterloo Region to support the purchase of new computer equipment. Much of the work Child Witness Centre does is now by video conference and the new computers are to help staff and clients communicate and provide testimony from a remote location and avoiding the need for children to attend court in person. Brandon Flewelling (R) and President Judy Nairn (L) present Kim Rodriques of the Child Witness Centre the cheque.
