Guest Speaker – Savio Wong – From Vimy to Juno
Savio shared a slide show of his trip to France where he travelled from Vimy to Juno along with 25 other teachers.
On this trip he visited the Vimy Memorial and walked along Juno Beach.
Savio himself is a Pacifist and struggles with the glorification of war history. However, thought this trip he realized that he could keep his pacifist beliefs while still honouring all of the brave men and women who lost their lives for our freedom. He said two things really stuck with him from this trip. The first being the rows and rows of tomb stones all with the same date Aug. 19, 1942 commemorating all those who died on the beaches in Juno. And secondly to remind ourselves that all those who died had a story to tell and a story to their lives. Lest we forget.
Stephen Langan thanks Savio for the presentation and for sharing his beliefs and the impact that this trip to France had on his life.
