Announcements
  • Tim Bradich provided a brief update on the final results of the Flag Program.  The Club deployed 65 flags into the community and raised just over $6,000 in revenue.  Great work!
  • Mac Graham advised that the Catch the Ace progressive jackpot continues to grow - currently sitting at slightly more than $5,300.  Remember to get your tickets!
  • President Jack advised he spoke with Bill Stevens regarding his wife Edie's recent cancer diagnosis.  Further updates will be provided as more information is known. Please keep Edie and Bill in your thoughts and prayers.
  • The Club and Foundation Annual General Meeting will be held on December 16th, 12:00 noon.  All are encouraged to participate.
  • The Club 40th Anniversary event that had been tentatively planned for 2021 has been officially cancelled as a result of the Pandemic situation.  To help celebrate this milestone, a memory book will be published.  More information will be provided in the near future.
Guest Speaker

Simon Adler provided a brief introduction of our guest speaker today, Mr. Alexandar Pavlov of the Working Centre who provided us with some "tales from the nightshift" at the Centre's facility located at 939 University Avenue East in Waterloo.  The University Avenue shelter is one of 5 facilities being managed by the Working Centre in Kitchener-Waterloo.
  • The Working Centre has set a goal to secure housing for all homeless people in Waterloo this Winter.
  • The facility on University Avenue was a former student housing facility.
  • Many of the temporary residents have serious drug addictions which makes managing the facility more difficult and challenging.  The goal is to provide safe housing and prevent drug overdoses.
  • The Working Centre works very closely with the Waterloo Regional Police and the Food Bank to make the facility safe and comfortable for the residents.
  • Alexandar and his colleagues characterize their work as "social work with a very high social importance".
Mac Graham thanked our speaker on behalf of the Club (and spoke almost as long as Alexandar did in doing so - well done Mac!).
