How to manage passwords for the many online accounts we all have.   The average person has 27 online account and probably more since COVID hit.   Look for a handout to come by email that covers much of what is talked about today.

Social media – FB Instagram and Twitter have systems for handling accounts once a person passes on.  You have to decide before hand what you want to happen to ALL your accounts. How to manage them – for instance – should someone use your own account to inform people of your passing.

Make a spreadsheet to decide for each account what you want to do.  And include information of how people gain access to manage – is a death cert or power of attorney necessary to gain access to manage?

FB has “memorialize” setting.   Someone has to manage after you are gone.  You may already have a default legacy contact.  Worth checking out.
Lots of people hold onto accounts of family and friends as something to remember them by.   It can be a person who acts on behalf of the estate.
There will be a handout with links to answer all kinds of questions.
With a FB legacy account someone has to actively manage your account.

Password Management
Cyber security expert recommends onepassword.com    Paid platform but it makes managing account passwords easy.
Remember your checklist.  (See the handout) Work on setting it up with instructions for someone who will look after your accounts once you pass.

Wills and powers of attorney
Plan for digital assets inside your will.   Be sure to set up who will manage your digital assets.

Note or memorandum on checklist lets your power of attorney or executor know who is to look after your digital assets.  How can people access them and what kind of access do you want your assignee to have.
Technically using a deceased’s password to access their accounts is identity theft but this is a bit of a grey area.
You may want to hire a good consultant.
