Guest Speakers – “Digger” and “Spirit” from the “Bikers Against Child Abuse” …BACA (Railway City Chapter)
BACA exists with the intent to create a safer environment for abused children from infancy to age 18. Through their work with abused children, they empower the child to not feel afraid of the world. They work with local and provincial/state organizations who are already tasked with protecting children. They stand ready to protect the child from further abuse. They are on call 24/7 to respond to a child who needs support, they accompany the child to the courts, if necessary, and thwart threats made to a child by an abuser.
As one child said, “My friends are scarier than yours!”
Members are extensively interviewed, police checked and given a 12-month training to be prepared to do this work. Two “primaries” are assigned to the child, but other members are called on to provide support when needed. Street names are given to members and to the child to protect privacy and ensure security from the abuser.
There was a mock demonstration of how it works – 8 of our members chose street names and were introduced to our “abused child” – “River”. We saw how the child is brought into the protective care of the BACA family. There must be a legitimate report of abuse for the group to become involved, and only one member is aware of all the details surrounding the case.
