Meeting Minutes

Call to order: 12:05
The Kitchener-Westmount Choir led us in Oh Canada
Toasts were raised to the Queen, Canada, the Club

Jack introduced a new, associate member: Alexander Pavlov

Jack and Andrew welcomed visitors from the Montego Bay (Jamaica) Rotary Club who invited us, in turn, to their meeting later this evening.  One of the visitors, Haresh Ramcharichan, spoke of their efforts to deal with the Covid crisis.

Jack welcomed Simon back who spoke briefly about the strangeness of almost completely empty airports.

Jack mentioned special days coming up:

            Birthday: Louise Puopolo
            Wedding anniversaries: Rick and Janice Bolzon, Simon and Ruth Adler
            Club anniversaries: Karen Spencer (3 years); John Vickery (20 years)  

Jack mentioned “this day in history”:
            Forty years ago Terry Fox was forced to end his cross-country marathon          effort
            1905, Alberta and Saskatchewan became provinces in Canada
Upcoming events

            No Wednesday meetings for next two weeks

            Lunch and hike at RARE, Saturday, Sept. 19 at 12 – check emails for more information and to reserve
            Waterloo Knights of Columbus Fish and Chips dinner, September 30, 2020
 
Tim Bradich spoke of flag programme:  45 participants – needs help collecting credit card data for next year – email to follow – wants to place 75 more flags – each member to try to place two flags

Jack mentioned status of Catch the Ace programme – hopes to have licence shortly – sales to start very shortly – first draw Sept. 10 – beneficiaries (this year) St. Mary’s and GRH and KidsAbility
 
Everton described success of backpack programme with Native centre – 54 backpacks delivered – also participated in the wampum belt event
Jack advised of upcoming K-W club cluster meeting and planning for next year
 
Mac Graham introduced the speaker: Jeff McIntyre who spoke of the F*Up Night events where entrepreneurs and others share stories of their failures and mistakes – started in Mexico now very popular world wide – is form of mentorship – sharing vulnerabilities  -- ideal: to help people recognize where and how things in their lives are going wrong and how to change this based on what others are sharing – had at least one successful event in K-W and planning more in strict accordance with Covid restrictions – “sharing failure is as important as sharing success”
Chris Ainsworth thanked the speaker
 
There is no Wednesday lunch meeting for the next two weeks (see lunch/hike at RARE as replacement).

John Thompson and Everton Wilmot delivered 52 Backpacks to the Anishnabeg Outreach Centre. The centre staff were very thankful for our members sponsorships to produce these backpacks filled with school supplies.
