GUEST SPEAKER NOTES:

  • Diane Wiles from Leadership Waterloo Region spoke to us.
  • Diane worked as a professional fundraiser for 20 years and with LWR she has served on various committees including the Selection Committee, Gala, Alumni, Panel Speakers, and Fundraising committees
  • This is LWR’s 20th year of incorporation, it was discovered in Vancouver by our own Karin Voisin who brought the concept idea back to our region
  • There have been 450 graduates of the program in various segments including Government, Not for Profit, Corporate, Policing, and Private sector
  • They have helped to support 67 NFP groups by inputting grad to help with projects
  • The program is a 1 year long program and the core program sets grads up to take on a Leadership role within Not For Profits in Waterloo Region
  • LWR provides Networking/Relationship Building and this is a large piece of the program
  • Simply asking people you meet “How are you today” gives them a sense of being valued
  • The Program Costs $4,800 and many employers will cover this cost as part of employee development
  • There are also bursaries available for those who want to participate but who may not be able to afford one including one named after long serving and recently retired Regional Chair Ken Seiling
  • Perhaps our Rotary Club could look into earmarking $5,000 to sponsor a bursary going forward?
