"Why would I want to be a District Governor"?
Two events in Susanne's life influenced her decision to take on the role of DG.
She was suppose to take on a job working at one of the Twin Towers in NY, luckily she did not accept the job.
Second, her husband was a firefighter from Canada and did assist with the recovery efforts in NY on Sept 11. Unfortunately, he was exposed to toxic waste in the air as a result of being at the site. They attended a Rotary event in 2014 in Caledon. There, they met Dr. Gary Lewis who was a stem cell researcher. Susanne's husband Richard had developed Liver cancer due to the exposure and became a patient of Dr. Lewis. Richard received excellent care with his medical issues.
For Susanne, to serve as DG was a way to show her gratitude. The Rotary event where they met Dr Lewis helped Richard deal with his medical issues.
The message of this Rotary year is "Unite for Good" . She encouraged our club to work with other groups.
Susanne asked us to come up with a new fundraiser this year, something we have not done in the past. If we don't try something new we don't know if an idea will work.
She encouraged the club to include the Rotary action plan in our club planning. We should be entering and tracking our goals.
Susanne said it was important to attract new members. There is the possibility of the District being split if membership numbers continue to fall. There are options available for those who are unable to attend Wednesday meetings such as a "companion club" .
She welcomed everyone to attend the upcoming District Conference.
Susanne said her role as DG is to serve our club, asset where she can, so we are encouraged to reach out to her anytime.
Bill Green thanked Susanne for taking the time to visit our club.
